Dr. Robert Boykin a Sports Medicine and Shoulder specialist at EmergeOrtho, Blue Ridge Bone and Joint Division was co-author of two studies published in the leading European orthopaedic journal, KSSTA (Knee Surgery, Sports Traumatology, Arthroscopy). The first study compared the strength of two different devices used to repair clavicle (collarbone) fractures of the shoulder. This is a common injury and the biomechanical data helps surgeons choose the best device for fixation.

The second study proposed a new technique for treating degeneration (arthritis) of the shoulder in patients who are too young to have a shoulder replacement. This study showed that cartilage and bone from a donated knee has a similar shape to the glenoid (socket) of the shoulder and may provide an option for performing a resurfacing procedure in the shoulder.
